What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?持続可能な開発目標「SDGs」とは

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are international goals aimed at achieving a sustainable and better world by 2030, as set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was unanimously adopted by member states at the United Nations Summit in September 2015 as the successor to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) formulated in 2001.
Comprised of 17 goals and 169 targets, the SDGs pledge to “leave no one behind” on the planet. The SDGs are universal goals that not only developing countries but also developed countries themselves should work towards, and Japan is also actively working towards them.

Towards a sustainable societyサステナブルな社会つくりのために
Through its recycling business, Ohashi is working to achieve the SDGs, focusing on three areas: “improving the global environment,” “increasing agricultural productivity and improving living conditions in refugee camps,” and “promoting technological innovation through diverse partnerships.”
Improving the global environment
In order to make effective use of limited resources, we are expanding sales of our 100% recycled resin flooring board “Repy Board” and pursuing further reuse of old Repy Board. In particular, we are working on recycling cross-linked polyethylene (polyolefin), which has previously been treated as industrial waste or fuel and could not be recycled, and are using it in “Repy Board” and other recycled resin products. We believe that developing technology to recycle cross-linked polyethylene will make a significant contribution to building a decarbonized society.
Eliminating poverty through the widespread use of “Repy Board”
“Repy Board,” a resin flooring board, is widely used in civil engineering and construction as a substitute for steel plates to improve soft ground. It also plays an important role in improving productivity in the agricultural sector, where soil is handled, and as flooring inside tents in refugee camps, improving living conditions. Using “Repy Board” in these areas contributes to improving agricultural work efficiency, which in turn helps to increase crop yields. It also makes it possible to improve living conditions in refugee camps, which we believe will lead to the elimination of poverty and zero hunger on a global scale.
Promoting technological innovation through diverse partnerships
We have built a variety of partnerships with people outside the company and have achieved our goals through collaboration between industry, government, and academia. We will not only focus on further technological development, but also on promoting innovation by utilizing that development, and will build optimal partnerships with companies not only in Japan but all over the world.
